PARAPARAUMU COLLEGE
JUNIOR ENGLISH REPORT
The English Department is now reporting students’ achievement in relation to the National Curriculum Levels in English. Students begin at Level 1 of the National Curriculum at the start of primary school and progress through the National Curriculum.
Students should have achieved Level 5 or above by the time they finish Year 10.
Students are assessed against these levels throughout primary school and in the first two years of secondary school.
As students usually take about two years to progress through a curriculum level it is useful to break these levels down into sub-levels. We have adopted the sub-levels developed by the asTTle Tests. These are nationally standardised tests of reading and writing that are currently being introduced throughout the country.
Each level of the curriculum is divided into three sublevels:
b = basic p = proficient a = advanced
The progression of levels and sublevels is shown below. 6a is the highest level and 2b the lowest that is tested for.
2b 2p 2a 3b 3p 3a 4b 4p 4a 5b 5p 5a 6b 6p 6a
