Shave for a Cure

Shave for a Cure is the signature fundraising event of the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.

From the 9th to the 15th of March people all around the country shaved their heads in order to raise money for patient support, research and education. This year Matt Cowens, English and Media Studies teacher, decided to lose his flowing locks in a bid to raise money for this worthy cause.

With a projector on stage showing live close-ups, a pair of randomly chosen Year 13 students equipped with scissors and a shaver, musical support and the good will of a crowd of over 200 students and staff members, Mr Cowens had his head shaved on Wednesday the 11th March, and in doing so raised over $800 for the cause. In response to a pledge of $150 to the charity from the school’s student council Mr Cowens also shaved off his beard.

A mood of celebration and community was very much in evidence as the extreme makeover took place, leaving Mr Cowens humbled and gladdened and with a cold head.
