1 March 2024

Kia ora koutou

I can’t quite believe it’s 1 March already and the end of Week 5, the term is flying! It’s been another great week. On Monday we had senior biology students investigating bird behaviour on their field trip to Ngā Manu and Waimanu Lagoons. Wednesday saw our Year 10 Sports Ambassadors assisting the Kāpiti Coast District Council with the annual primary schools festival.  On the same day our athletes competed for the Te Rauparaha Shield down at The Domain. Our school achieved well and brought home the shield which we have now held since 2018!  Well done to all our athletes for their hard work and performances on the day.

Today I was privileged to be able to witness students from the primary schools and the colleges of Kāpiti Coast learning a new waiata and haka written especially for our combined schools. A small number of students from each school and their kapa haka tutors and teachers joined to learn these together and return to their kura to help share their learning. This was special today, witnessing the beginnings of something that will be unique and special for Kāpiti schools. Ka mau te wehi!

In today’s video newsletter I speak with Ella and Fletcher who have both been accepted to attend the London International Youth Science Forum in July. The opportunity arose after they were selected to attend a national event in Auckland over January. We are super excited for them both and know they are in for an amazing experience. If you are in any way able to help support them getting to London then please do jump onto their Givealittle pages, every bit helps. You can view the video here.

Attendance Reports

Early next week you will get sent the first of our weekly attendance reports. We know attendance is a crucial factor to student success. These reports help keep regular attendance at the forefront of everyone’s mind but also show attendance patterns over time. The email will come from Brendon Monk but if you have any queries about any attendance please contact the Tūhono teacher in the first instance.

A reminder that we use our School App and  Facebook page for any urgent messages and to highlight student success and we would love you to follow us.  You can find the links at the bottom of this newsletter along with a link to our Instagram page and Youtube.
