Kia ora koutou

We have a lot of different sporting and arts events happening at the college in any one week and I don’t mention everything that’s taking place but I would like to make special mention of the teams and individuals that competed in the waka ama regionals in Masterton last weekend. While we have had Trilaine successfully compete as an individual previously, this year we had two teams enter, which is huge for our college. Our teams competed really well with our U19 W6 crew gaining 2nd place in the 500m event. Congratulations also to Trilaine for her 1st place in the U19 W1 250m, as well as her involvement in coaching her fellow students in the lead up to the event.

On Sunday we also had the Wanderers cricket club play our 1st XI cricket team in the inaugural match for The Pritchard-Meiring Cup. The cup was named in honour of cricketing great Tom Pritchard and his daughter, Julie Meiring, who was a long-serving Sports Director at Paraparaumu College. Congratulations to the Wanderers on their win.

On Wednesday evening I was able to join with many others to experience the hospitality and catering students restaurant night. What an amazing evening. I went with my wife Kath and two friends we have visiting from the UK. The food was superb, the service exceptional and our friends commented it was the best meal they'd had so far in the three weeks that they have been travelling around New Zealand! If you get the chance to attend one of the restaurant evenings in the future, I highly recommend it.

In this week’s video newsletter I talk with Community Captain, Odette and International Captain, Jessica, about the Cultural Festival taking place tonight. We are excited to be hosting what is going to be a great event. Whether it's grooving to top-class Latin American live entertainment, participating in interactive ethnic dances, tasting exotic fare from cultural food stalls, or experiencing an expert calligrapher and henna painter first-hand, this evening is an opportunity to celebrate the richness our diverse community offers.

With items from at least 25 different countries, these 3 hours are full of action-packed mementos for all ages to enjoy. Running from 5pm - 8pm it is going to be a great night, so please come on down and be part of a very special Cultural Festival. You can check out the video on the news article below.

This weekend we also have our team entered in Kāpiti Run for Youth. We love working with young people in our community. Therefore, joining this special event to celebrate and fundraise for those that work for youth in our community is something we love to do. If you would like to sponsor our team or any of the team participants, then please click here to the Kāpiti Run for Youth site.

Next week we have a number of teams and individuals away on summer tournament week, this includes: tennis, cricket boys and girls, volleyball and waka ama.

I want to thank all coaches, managers, staff and parents supporting these teams. We wish them well for them all the very best!
