Kia ora koutou
Carpool Karaoke
Well, who would have predicted that a bit of carpool karaoke between the Principal and Head Students would become a viral internet sensation?! If you haven’t watched it yet, you will find the video on our Facebook page where it has now racked up close to 100,000 views! It looks as though there are a number of other schools both in New Zealand and Australia who have commented on the post and are laying down future karaoke challenges, so there may well be more editions to come in the future. We were delighted to receive media interest from Stuff and from TVNZ Breakfast, where Head Student Oscar Moore and Principal Mark Robinson spoke with host Chris Chang live on TV on Tuesday 2 July. If you would like to watch the interview here is the link to the episode - just scroll forward to 2 hours and 2 mins, which is where we appear. A huge thank you to Oscar, Anika, Anna and Daniel who were all superstars!
School Donation Scheme
The Board is pleased to announce that on 25 June 2024, it decided to opt into the Ministry of Education school donation scheme from 2025. A letter from Presiding Member Michelle Mason will be emailed directly to all parents and caregivers separately to this newsletter. We look forward to sharing more information about the donations scheme later in the year.
School Alert Programme
We are pleased to inform you that Paraparaumu College is now part of the School Alert Programme. This is a wellbeing-focused initiative led by the Ministry of Education and NZ Police and is currently offered to schools throughout the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti and Porirua. The purpose of the programme is to notify schools when one of our students has been affected by a family harm episode. The Ministry of Education will manage and monitor alerts from Police and send a notification through to a dedicated email address with no other detail than the student’s name. This email address is monitored by the Deputy Principal, Mr Seymour and Principal, Mark Robinson. As a result of this notification we are then aware that one of our students has experienced an event within the last 24 hours and we are then better able to assist the students through more appropriate and sensitive behaviour management, together with the provision of additional support when required. Please feel free to contact Mark Robinson if you have any further questions about the programme.
Celebrating Student Success: Carter Madge
We are very proud of one of our Year 11 students, Carter Madge, who has been selected by the New Zealand Football Appointments Committee as an Assistant Referee in the Kate Sheppard Cup quarter finals. Held in Wellington, he will officiate in the Waterside Karori versus Wellington Phoenix Women’s Reserves game alongside FIFA officials this coming Saturday, 6 July. The Kate Sheppard Cup is New Zealand’s premier women’s association football knockout tournament. This season, Carter has also been a match official in the Men’s Central League and he was also the referee for the recent PC vs KC girls game. Last season he officiated in fifteen National League games, winning numerous awards. A very well done to Carter!
