Sports Awards

I am writing this on Friday morning, having spent the evening celebrating the wonderful achievements of a large number of students at our annual Sports Awards last night. What a fabulous occasion! Many congratulations to all those who won awards, and huge thanks to our inspirational guest speaker Piri Weepu, and to the team who made the evening so successful: our Sports Director, Frances Solia and Sports Administrator Fiona Morrison. The event was compèred by our 2024 Sports Captains Matt, Grace, Ellie and Kyle, as well as Deputy Principal Aaron Mead. They all did a great job!

A special mention to Trilaine, Lucas and our 1st XV who took out Sportswoman, Sportsman and Team of the Year, respectively. We are so proud of all our students who take part in a huge variety of sports across the year and so thankful to all our volunteer coaches and managers in our community who support them. Our success would not be possible without the 1000s of hours of assistance we receive from our fantastic community. Thank you!

RYPEN

It was my pleasure to spend some time talking with Alice and Clare this week, about their recent experience with the Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN). Thank you very much to the Rotary Clubs of Waikanae and Kāpiti for their support with these amazing opportunities. Enjoy the video to find out a bit more about what Alice and Clare got up to.

Sports Review and Uniform Refresh

Once again thank you to all those who have completed the surveys we sent out last week.  These will be held open until Tuesday 29 October, so if you haven’t already completed them, please take the time to do so.  Your voice is really important to us.  We've had a great response, especially from our students, but we do want to hear more from our community.

The Sports Review team held their first focus group session with students during lunch time on Wednesday 23rd, which went really well.  There is another one for students on Tuesday 29th October at lunch time, so we're hoping we have a number of our junior students attend this so they can share their thoughts.

In November the Sports Review Team will be running focus groups for coaches, managers, volunteers and any community members to share feedback.  More details will come around those closer to the time.

Canteen open all day for exam students

The College Canteen will be open all day for students involved in exams. We will be open from 8:00am to 2.30pm during the exam weeks. A good place to meet up after exams to keep noise away from the exam rooms.

Students  with a credit on Kindo AND are NOT coming back next year are advised to use this credit as this cannot be paid back to a bank account.  For students returning next year, the credit will roll over.

Some basic stationery items eg pens, pencils etc are available for sale for those 'just in case moments'.  Plain water bottles are also available.

Leaving School Magazine

The latest issue of the Leaving School magazine is now available for you to read online – www.oliverlee.co.nz/leavingschool-issue31

This issue contains plenty of interesting information for senior students as they prepare for life after school, whether they go on to further study, start an apprenticeship or join the workforce.  It also has great information on exam tips and wellbeing, student finance and crafting a winning CV.

A reminder that we use our School App and Facebook page for any urgent messages and to highlight student success and we would love you to follow us.  You can find the links at the bottom of this newsletter along with a link to our Instagram page and Youtube.
