“This school is a caring community of great learners where we focus on establishing positive, respectful relationships with those around us”- Craig Steed, Principal
Since 1 February 2020, Paraparaumu College enrolments have been subject to an Enrolment Scheme (as set out in Schedule 71 of the Education and Training Act 2020)
Enrolments at Paraparaumu College shall be determined in accordance with the following procedures:
Students living inside the designated home zone, as detailed below, have the absolute right to be enrolled. There are no restrictions regarding any student, at any year level, in terms of enrolment at the college, at any time.
Students living outside the designated home zone must apply for pre-enrolment before designated dates. These are determined at the beginning of each school year.
Places for students enrolling from out of zone will be dependent upon the estimated number of places available at each year level. If the number of pre-enrolments exceeds the number of places available, then a ballot will occur to determine priority order. Places will be offered to meet the number of available spaces with the balance of the unsuccessful pre-enroless being placed in rank order on a waiting list.
BALLOTS FOR PLACES FOR OUT OF ZONE STUDENTS
The order of priority in which applicants who live outside a school’s home zone are to be offered places at the school is as follows:
If the number of out of zone applicants for our school exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot (except in the case of special programmes, where the criteria in the enrolment scheme apply).
Enrol online (in zone students only) or download the form (in and out of zone students)
IN ZONE ENROLMENTS
Proof of residential address in the form of a rates demand or tenancy agreement AND a utility bill eg: power, phone, insurance etc is required for all in zone enrolments.. This must be provided in order to accept the enrolment.
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS
Applications must be received by the due date of the relevant year level. For Year 9 students this is advertised around July in the previous year. For Year 10 - 13 the closing date for out of zone applications is around October in the previous year.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR ALL ENROLMENTS
For students born outside of New Zealand or are a New Zealand Citizen/Resident who has not resided in New Zealand, a copy of a birth certificate/citizenship certificate or passport (with visa details or NZ residency permit if applicable) is required.
ENROLMENTS FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Once the enrolment form has been completed and all required documentation is provided, a confirmation email will be sent acknowledging receipt and requesting subject choices, information around booking an appointment for uniform (Year 9 - 12) and information around booking an enrolment meeting.
An invitation will be sent to you to meet with one of our senior leadership team and/or year level dean. This is an opportunity for us to get to know your student, confirm their subject choices and discuss potential involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Prior to the commencement of school the following year, information will be provided around start dates for the new year.
Once the enrolment form has been completed and all required documentation is provided, an enrolment interview will be scheduled with either the Principal/Associate Principal/Deputy Principal and the relevant Year level Dean.
All New Zealand state schools use ENROL, which is the database of students enrolled in a school. It is important that parents are made aware of how enrolment information is collected, stored and used. Please see the Enrol Privacy Information Statement below. In order to avoid overcrowding, the Board of Paraparaumu College has adopted an enrolment scheme which has been approved by the Ministry of Education which includes a home zone specification.
The following is a description of the home zone:
In the south, the scheme runs along the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road, along Toru Road to the airport and following the airport boundary north along Dakota Road – Magrath Avenue to Kāpiti Road, then along both sides of Kāpiti Road to the old State Highway, up the old State Highway to the intersection of Ruahine Street (including Nikau Valley).
The scheme then runs north up the old State Highway to Te Kowhai Road and Gary Road. The scheme then runs back along the coast to the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road.
All residential addresses on included sides of boundary roads and all no exits roads off included sides of boundary roads are included in the scheme unless otherwise stated.
