PUBLIC NOTICE - ENROLMENT FOR 2026

Consequent upon the passing of the Education Amendment Act 2000, the following matters are drawn to the attention of the parents of prospective students at Paraparaumu College.

  1. ENROLMENT SCHEME

In order to avoid overcrowding, the Board has adopted an enrolment schemes which has been approved by the Ministry of Education.

The Board will invite applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at Paraparaumu College for next year.  Applications are governed by the enrolment scheme, details of which are available in our prospectus and on our website.

Applications are to be made on the official enrolment forms, and according to the manner prescribed in the prospectus.  These will be available shortly after King’s Birthday Weekend.

  1. HOME ZONE

Paraparaumu College has a home zone specified in their enrolment scheme.  The following is a description of the home zone:

In the south the scheme runs along the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road, along Toru Road to the airport and following the airport boundary north along Dakota Rd – Magrath Ave to Kapiti Road, then along both sides of Kapiti Road to old State Highway, up the old State Highway to the intersection of Ruahine Street (including Nikau Valley).

The scheme runs east until the top of the Akatarawa summit. The scheme runs along until it meets Hadfield Road.

The scheme then runs north up State Highway One to Te Kowhai Road and Gary Road. The scheme then runs back along to coast to the intersection of Marine Parade and Toru Road.

All residential addresses on included sides of boundary roads and all no exit roads off included sides of boundary roads are included in the scheme unless otherwise stated.

  1. APPLICATION DATES

For planning purposes we request applications from the parents of students who live in their home zone, for entry into Year 9 in 2026, to be in the hands of Paraparaumu College by WEDNESDAY 23 JULY 2025.  This is not a deadline.  In zone applications can be accepted at any time by the zoned college.

In the case of applications for enrolment for students who live outside the home zone of the school to which application is made, applications must be received no later than WEDNESDAY 23 JULY 2025.  Any application received after Wednesday 23 July 2025 will not be able to be considered.

Applications from out of zone applicants for places in Years 10 to 13 in 2026 can also be received up to Monday 13 October 2025, but acceptance of these enrolments will be subject to such factors as the optimum total roll of each school, or the number of applicants from within the school’s home zone.  Any applications received after Monday 13 October 2025 will not be able to be considered.

  1. NUMBER OF PLACES AVAILABLE

The Board has determined the optimum number of places likely to be available for students entering Year 9 in 2026.  Also indicated are the likely number of places available to students from outside the home zone.

The out of zone numbers are an estimate only and the actual number of places available will not be known until the pre-enrolment of all in zone students has been completed.

Estimated Year 9 in 2026: 300

Estimated out of zone places in Year 9 2026: 20

Students who live within the home zone of any school have the right to be enrolled at that school.  The likely number of places available for Year 9 students who live outside the home zone will depend upon the number of applications received and accepted by the parents of students who live within the school’s home zone.

5 . BALLOTS FOR PLACES FOR OUT OF ZONE STUDENTS

The order of priority in which applicants who live outside a school’s home zone are to be offered places at the school is as follows:

  1. first priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school (Paraparaumu College has no such programme)
  2. second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school
  3. third priorouity must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a former student of the school
  4. fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school
  5. fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of an employee of the Board of the school
  6. sixth priority must be given to all other applicants

If the number of out of zone applicants exceeds the places available at that school, students will be selected by ballot.

If a ballot is required for Year 9 students, that ballot will be held on Monday 28 July 2025.  Parents will be informed of the outcome of that ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.  Parents will have 14 days to respond to any offer of a place.

If a ballot is required for Years 10 to 13 students, that ballot will be held Friday 17 October 2025 and parents will be informed of the outcome within three school days of the ballot being held.
